"you don't always get what you want."

you get what it means? no matter how hard you tried, how hard you expressed your wish to go, or when you are not in the good books of the lecturer, you just don't get it.

how is selection made? by one particular student? by the choice of the lecturer? by grades? by performance? by bootlicking? by the choice of the lecturer based on the influence and choice of that student? by helping and volunteering your services in order to get that place?

what is "oh, i'm already selected to go."
what is this? cos you're already in his good books by rendering help every now and then?
